These are just some outlines for alternative ways to bring some money into the game. I won't be proposing all of them. Everyone, please sound off on these if you're interested.
Proposal: Carpentry
New building: Carpentry Workshop
Construction cost: some amount of money and/or logs, and an ax
Deconstruction cost: some lesser amount of money
Capacity: ?
Notes: Logs can be sold at the carpentry workshop for cash. Players may skip turns to work the carpentry workshop, turning logs into merchandise, for which they get paid. Players can purchase finished merchandise from the shop. The owner gets a kickback or some other sort of bonus.
I don't have any ideas yet what the finished merchandise might be.
Proposal: Stock Market
Define investables. Investables have a share price and a set number of shares that can be purchased by players. Shares are purchased and sold at a new building called a stock exchange. Possibly, individual stock exchanges only trade in particular types of investables.
Each type of investable accrues and/or loses money according to a fixed set of rules. Investables with positive accounts periodically pay their cash to the shareholders as revenue. Additionally, an investable's share price periodically rises or falls according to a fixed set of rules.
After all that is defined, make evil twins be investables. They gain or lose money from their movement, according to square number or color or some such, and they pay revenues after each lap. Perhaps as a future proposal, it would also be good to introduce some forces that act on the evil twins, to differentiate them more and make some be better investments than others.
We could also make shops investables, Dr. Jekyll, etc.
Proposal: public works
Players and evil twins produce litter. Some activities produce more litter than others. Players can get paid to pick litter up and take it to the garbage heap. Since it might take some time to reach the garbage heap, this would be a good opportunity to try to limit inventory space.
Other similar types of tasks could also become available that would generate income.
Proposal: Nomichack
Populate the boards with monsters, and put some weapons and armor up for sale. Make money by slaying the monsters. Make the M-Board much more dangerous, and make evil twins the ultimate target.
Proposal: You Bet Your Life
The Admin selects a secret word. Whenever a proposal is accepted that contains that word, the proposer gains $1000, and the Admin selects a new secret word.
Okay, these are getting sillier and sillier, so I'm just going to cut myself off now.
