Re: Other Nomic games
Well, I was thinking recently about a way to make a Nomic version of Magic: the Gathering work. Last time it was discussed, the conclusion that it would take forever to get past a turn with all the interactions that could happen.
Then it hit me. Rather than having turns and whatnot, we could just do it in realtime, and replace "turn" with "24 hours". Your lands will untap next turn? Now they'll untap in 24 hours. Each turn you need to sacrifice a creature or DIE INSTANTLY? Now you do it every 24 hours! Etc etc.
Of course, I can still see some problems. I'm not sure how unbalance-resistant M:tG is, and almost all Nomic games are unbalanced. And the more weirdness we add into the game, the size of the ruleset will increase exponentially. If you've ever read the Magic Comprehensive Rules, you'll know what I mean.
As for CivNomic, how about if every once in a while, all the holdings of each player are all totaled up, and then the players are put in alliances in such a way that each alliance is more or less equal. Then to make it even more even, stuff could be given to the weaker alliances, until every alliance is exactly equal.
