Hello everyone, and welcome to the fifth Nomopoly game. We'll be starting on January 7, so if you would like to join the game, just send me an e-mail. New players are also welcome after the game starts. If you haven't done so yet, you'll probably want to read the FAQ and take a quick look at the rules. (Don't let all the rules scare you; the game isn't that complicated. The rules are just wordy to ensure there aren't any loose ends).
For those of you who are new to this, here's a quick summary of all those links at the top of your screen and the various things you can do (keep in mind that you can't make proposals or take turns until the game actually starts):
The History page contains a list of everything that people have done in the game. You can filter the list based on time and player using the available links. If something in the game has changed and you're not sure why, chances are you'll find the reason for it here.
The Rules page contains the rules of the game, as they are at the time. You'll also notice that there's a link from there to the Rules History page, which will help you track the changes to the rules throughout the game.
The Players page shows a list of all players in the game, and information about them (such as where they are on the board and how much money they have).
The Trades page (only available if you are logged in) allows you to trade things with other players. The only thing that can initially be traded is money (which is pointless to trade on its own), so you won't have to worry about trading at first.
The Proposals page is where you can view/submit proposed changes to the rules. By default, only proposals that are currently being voted on are shown, but you can use the links on the page to view older proposals.
To post a proposal, simply type it into the box and click the "Submit" button. Once posted, your proposal may be voted on for the next five days. You may only have one proposal being voted on at a time, so if you need to post a different proposal, you may retract your current one.
You can vote either "Yes" or "No" on an active proposal by clicking the appropriate button. You may change your vote at any time before the five day voting period has expired.
The Board page shows where you are on the board. You will initially be on Square #1, and you can move by taking turns. To take a turn, simply click on the "Take a Turn" button. The website will roll two 6-sided dice for you and move you ahead on the board. You may do this at most once every three days.
The Message Board is a public discussion forum for this game. If you have a question, a problem, or you just feel like saying something, the message board is a nice place to post your comments.
The Mailbox page (only available if you are logged in) allows you to talk privately with other players. Once you log in, you'll receive a friendly notice if you have new mail, so you don't need to check this page every day.
The Options page (only available if you are logged in) allows you to change various preferences for yourself (such as your password).
For those of you who have played Nomopoly before, things are nearly identical to Nomopoly IV (at least for now). The only change to the rules is the deletion of the $100 fine for not taking turns. It just served as a minor annoyance for players who couldn't log in within the two-day window. I'm leaving it up to the players to decide if players should be forced to take turns at some point in the future.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me either by e-mail or on the message board. Good luck!
